Medicare is health insurance sponsored by the federal government for people 65 and older. Some people under 65 may qualify for Medicare if they have certain disabilities or conditions. Medicare plans can include coverage for doctor visits, hospital care, prescription drugs and more.
Original Medicare includes Part A (covers hospital care) and Part B (covers doctor’s visits and more). Medicare Advantage (Part C) combines the benefits of Original Medicare and include extra benefits. Medicare Part D helps cover the costs of prescription drugs.
Most people become eligible for Medicare three months before turning 65. But you may be eligible earlier if you have certain qualifying conditions or disabilities. Learn about the different Medicare enrollment periods and when Medicare coverage starts.
